Does the School Parent and Family Engagement Plan describe how the school will accomplish each of the required components?

*The Charleston High School will Involve parents in the review, update, and improvement, at least annually, of the school parent and family engagement plan to meet the changing needs of parents and the school.

*The Charleston High School will submit any parent comments to the district if the plan is not satisfactory and will ensure that adequate representation of parents of participating children in the process in a variety of roles.

*The Charleston High School will have various parent meetings and activities throughout the year.


2: Annual Title I Meeting

(Describe/List when (provide the month/year or month/day/year) the school will hold the Annual Title I meeting to inform parents of the requirements of Title I and the school’s participation as well as the parents’ rights to be involved. The Annual Title I meeting should not be used to ask for parent input, but provided as an opportunity to disseminate information and distribute copies of the revised parent and family engagement policy.)

The Charleston High School is not a Title 1 School.  But all parents are invited to the Title 1 Annual Meeting.

3: Communications

​(Describe/List how the parent and family engagement policy will be distributed to parents and how the school is going to communicate with parents including information about how the school will provide information related to school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities to parents in a format, to the extent practicable, and in a language that parents can understand.)

Parents will be kept informed of upcoming events, meetings, ways to participate by the district's website, face book, and twitter accounts.

Charleston High School will have a school parent and family engagement plan available to families and the local community. It will also include contact information of the parent facilitator.

An informational packet will be sent home with ever students at the beginning of the school year.  The information will be written in an understanding and appropriate format that will include such as items as; parent and family engagement plan, ways for families to be involved in their child's education, a volunteer survey.

Signatures will be obtained from each parent acknowledging receipt of the and Family Engagement Plan.

Parents and families will be kept up to date throughout the year of planned activities by way of social media. 

Parents can communicate with staff by email, phone, and the home access center in eschool.  The Charleston High School realizes that communication with parents is an important facet in their child's academic success.

The Charleston High School will host two parent teacher conferences, one in the fall and one in the spring. Staff will be available to communicate with parents should parents not be able to attend the parent/teacher conferences.

The Charleston High School Parent and Family Engagement Plan will be placed on the district website by August 1, 2021.



4: School-Parent Compact

The Parent School Compact will build and develop a partnership to help student achieve the challenging Arkansas state academic standards.

The Parent School Compact will address the importance of regular two-way, meaningful communication through not only two parent/teacher conferences but, the reporting of student progress throughout the year and parents having opportunities to volunteer and observe classroom activities.

Parent-School Compact will be included in the back to school information packet and on the school website.

Volunteer surveys will be sent in the information packet so that parents and family can volunteer their time at the school.  

5: Reservation of Funds

(If the district receives more than $500,000 in Title I allocation, then it must reserve 1 percent for parent and family engagement activities. A minimum of 90% of that 1% must go to the schools, with priority given to high-need schools. If the school is allocated a percentage of the 1 percent, describe/list how the school will share with parents the budget for parent and family engagement activities and programs and how parents will be involved in providing input into how the funds are used.)

6: Coordination of Services

Charleston High School with the collaboration with parents will develop the student success plans for their child. 

The Family and Community Engagement Plan is coordinated through the efforts of staff and administration at the high school with the district working together.

The District has a Parent Teacher Organization that works with parents and staff in making decisions for parent activities for the District and making opportunities for parents to be involved in their child's education.

The Family and Community Engagement Plan will be incorporated in the school improvement.

Charleston High School will collaborate with community resources, the district's (SOS) Support Our Students fund, the Homeless Liaison, to help strengthen our programs and student's academic achievement and learning.

7: Building Capacity of Parents

(Describe/List activities, such as workshops, conferences, classes, online resources, Academic Parent-Teacher Team meetings, and any equipment or other materials that may be necessary to support parents in helping their student’s academic success.)

​Does the School Parent and Family Engagement Plan describe how the school will accomplish each of the required components?​

*The Charleston High School will host two parent/teacher conferences, one each semester in October  and in February.

*Parents are also include in each student's success plan that is developed in the eight grade and for each year after that.  Parents will work with teachers and their child to update and revise the student success plan each year.

*Parents and students are invited to the 9th Grade Orientation that will take place in the Spring of 2022.  The counselor will go over high school graduation requirements, course selections, high school opportunities.

*The counselor will help students with college application and the free and federal student aid application.

*A Report to the Public, Parent/Teacher conferences, Wellness committee, the Home Access Center are provided to assist parents with understanding the state academic standards, state and local assessments.  Links are also provided for parents to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education website. 

*Responsible parenting is promoted and supported by the Family and Community Engagement Plan. 

8: Building Capacity of School Staff

(Describe/List activities such as workshops, conferences, trainings, webinars, online resources, and Academic Parent-Teacher Team meetings that will be used with school staff to build their capacity to work with parents as equal partners. Describe/List methods of parents’ assistance for building staff capacity. Describe/List actions the school will take to provide other reasonable support for parent and family engagement activities.)

*Train teachers, specialized instructional support personnel, principals, and other school leaders, and other staff, with the assistance of parents:

​​*The Charleston High School believes that parents play an integral role in assisting student learning and value the contribution that parents make in the student's learning.

*The Charleston High School wants parents to work along side the school to help student's academic achievement and build relationship between the school and community.

*Parents are asked and are welcomed to become involved in parent and family engagement activities throughout the school year.

*The Charleston High School parent and family engagement plan will be in a parent friendly and language friendly.

*The Charleston High School recognizes that a parent is a full partner by including in the school handbook the school's process for resolving parent concerns.
